~shameless self promotion~ THIS RECIPE WORKS BRILLIANTLY. PERFECT FOR WINTER SOUPS. TRY IT NOW AND HAVE ACCESS TO THE REST OF THE KITSCHEN’S RECIPES FREE! (Or you could just follow us ;D)Freshly baked bread. Which I then turned into delicious fairy bread.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups of flour
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 packet of dry yeast (I’ve heard buttermilk also works with making the bread rise, but I’ve never tried it myself)
- 2 cups of water at about 50C (120F)
- 2 tablespoons of softened butter
Things you have to do in order to turn the ingredients into bread:
- Mix 3 cups of flour with the sugar, salt and yeast. If using an electric mixer, I would suggest a low speed.
- Add the water and butter. Continue the mixing!
- Add another 3 cups of flour. If you’re not using an electric mixer, it’s time to do some exercise! If yes, just flick the switch up to ‘high’. :)
- Keep mixing for a few minutes until the dough becomes soft-ish.
- Tip out onto a floured surface, and let the kneading begin!
- Knead for about 10 - 15 minutes (or until the dough is really squishy and elastic-y)
- Place dough in a large bowl/pot, cover with a towel, and leave in a nice, warm spot (like under the sun!) for about an hour, to allow the yeast to get to work. [You can tumble while you’re waiting]
- Take the dough out (an hour later!) and knead some more.
- If you have bread tins, butter the inside of the tin, and place the loaves in. If not, simply cover a tray with baking paper and shape the dough into a loaf-ish looking blob.
- Cover your tins/trays with a towel and leave in a warm place for another 40 minutes.
- Bake in an oven at 180C (350F) fan forced, 200C (400F) electric for about half an hour. To check whether they’re ready or not, simply tap the crust - if they sound hollow, then you’re done!
- Remove the loaves and place onto cooling racks.
YOU HAVE BREAD!
Fairy bread:
After your bread has cooled, you may slice into brilliantly thick cafe-style slices, butter them, and sprinkle them with sugary goodness. Yum! :3
