is cursive still a thing? Is it still taught in school? Sometimes I hear that places have stopped doing this. I guess I just wonder if it’s going to go away as far as everyday use. Yes I am 100…

1986, and we used it all through elementary school. We did penmanship exercises pretty frequently and all our essays had to be done in cursive.

1986. My teacher taught it in third grade. I had to write my essays in cursive in the fifth grade and got top marks for it. The only time I’ve had to write in cursive for school since is to sign exams. But I use a combination of cursive and print for everything these days.

1994! I win at being a baby. In primary school, we wrote in pencil until our handwriting was a neat combination of cursive and print (sort of like an official handwriting style, as standardized by handwriting books everywhere), and then we were bestowed a “pen license” and allowed to write in biro.

I never got my pen license.

This answer is unhelpful, and I’m sorry for it! But no, cursive isn’t a thing that I was ever specifically taught, although we’re expected to have neat, legible handwriting either way.

I live in Australia, if that carries weight.

Also 1994 (and also Australian.. eheh)

I did cursive in my first primary school, which was private, so I guess they were more conservative/traditional? Because I didn’t at my second primary school.
